2nd Generation
In between the 1st generation of Polish bootlegs and
the 3rd generation of bootlegs, previously known as “Recasts”, there
was a 2nd generation. I’m not exactly sure of the time frame of the release
of these figures but all information points towards roughly the early 1990’s.
Very few figures are known to have been released during this second wave. The
Stormtrooper is by far the most common to have shown up carded.
Of the two card styles shown below the one bearing the
Elektrospoldzielnia logo is the oldest. That card is much more closely related
to the 1st generation cardbacks. It features a proper ROTJ logo, in English,
along with GWIEZDNE WOJNY, which is Polish for Star Wars, and a very cheezy
drawing of a Biker Scout figure riding on a Speeder Bike. It's very possible
these were the second wave of figures released by Elektrospoldzielnia, as evidenced
by the company name in the upper left hand corner. Considering the other 2nd
generation figures on Stormtrooper cards don't bear the company name, and are
the first wave to come with weapons as opposed to being sold seperately in a
weapon
bag it's very possible they were made by a different company.
The other 2 figures, Luke X-Wing and Stormtrooper,
appear on a cardback bearing the Tri-Logo
Stormtrooper image which lacks the company name on previous cardbacks. Both
of these figures also came packaged with weapons unlike their previous counterparts.
Another point of note is that the arm
pins changed during this wave of figures. All of these changes help add
weight to the theory that these and the 3rd generation figures were made by
a new company. It is thought that Elektrospoldzielnia went bankrupt in the late
1980's or very early 1990's. The company that bought the molds is known to have
also produced G.I. Joe bootlegs, as evidenced by the 3rd generation figures
being packed with G.I. Joe weapons, and Masters of the Universe bootlegs.
